1. Purpose of the study

In the area of construction of the new ESPACIO BARÇA located in the Ciudad Deportiva of the F.C. Barcelona, 3S’TECH has intervened in the area of Quality Control in the prefabricated terraces.

In order to be able to determine how these terraces will behave in the future, several non-destructive tests have been planned in order to evaluate their behaviour while in service.

2. Tests carried out:

2.1 Load test

In order to obtain experimental data on the safety of the terraces and the behaviour of the structure as a whole,  load tests will be carried out to reproduce the static load state in which the structure is.

A load equivalent to the maximum load that can be found on a day of sports events is applied to the terraces and linear displacement sensors are used to capture vertical displacements in the most critical points of the structure.

2.2 Dynamic Study

In order to verify the terraces for dynamic loads due to stresses during its life, it was decided to determine the natural frequencies of the system and compare them with those identified as dangerous by the standards.

The method used to extract the modal parameters of the structure is an experimental modal test based on an impact test.

This procedure is based on determining the frequency response function (FRF) from the relationship between an excitation signal (measured by an accelerometer at the tip of a hammer) and a signal from the response of the system (by accelerometers on the structure).
